Consistory Done Like Middle School - Leo XIV Is Responsible

Journalists Raymond Arroyo and Robert Royal, and canon lawyer and priest Gerald Murray of New York talked on January 16 about the consistory of January 7-8. A short sequence, video below.
Robert Royal commenting on Cardinal Grech’s contribution on synod:
I think you hear that and you say, what in God’s name can that possibly mean? This is the gobbledygook we’ve been listening to for years about synodality and all this confusion. I mean, one of the things I’ve heard from sources is that many of these cardinals have said, "Look, we’re just confused about this. We’re tired of going over the same things again and again." These pronouncements keep coming out.
When I read Cardinal Grech, I said to myself: This guy knows they haven’t gotten anything substantial done. You can try to preserve the illusion that there’s somehow a dynamic age of the Spirit underway, but it’s about to die.
Raymond Arroyo:
Well, he says there are good fruits here. He says fruits are blooming all over the place. …More

Schism in Germany, Leo XIV’s High-Stakes Game

ROME, 17 January 2026 Pope Leo XIV met Friday with the apostolic nuncio to Germany, Archbishop Nikola Eterović, amid reports that their talks focused on the German bishops’ planned vote to establish a permanent Synodal Conference that would grant laypeople decision-making authority equal to bishops, allow doctrinal changes by majority vote, and place Church finances under shared control.
Writing in Il Giornale this morning, Italian journalist Nico Spuntoni
said it is “inevitable” that the Pope’s meeting with his nuncio to Germany would be “dominated by the imminent vote of the German Bishops’ Conference on the Statutes of the Synodal Conference.”
The vote is scheduled for the bishops’ plenary assembly Feb. 19–22 in Augsburg.
It follows a Nov. 22 meeting in Fulda, where bishops and lay representatives unanimously approved the statutes for a permanent national synodal body composed of bishops, representatives of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK …

Why Is the Salve Regina Sung after Communion?

Hello,
I came across your website, specifically the Article "
Salve Regina - Hail Holy Queen Explanation and interpretation" by Fr. Stephen Somerville," and I was hoping to get some clarification regarding the use of Salve Regina as a post-Communion hymn.
It’s seems that, traditionally, the Salve Regina is sung pre or post Mass. The parish I’m at now has inserted the Salve Regina in the Mass just following the Communion hymn. I find it distracting and strange to sing the Salve Regina, a song directed to Mary, right after I’ve come in full Communion with the Lord through his most sacred body and blood.
If a Marian hymn were to be used at all during this time of worship, wouldn’t the Magnificat, direct to our Lord, be much more appropriate?
I would love to hear your thoughts, and appreciate any direction you can provide regarding this situation.
Thank you! Respectfully,
J.B.

Valet to Three Popes Dies at 90

Angelo Gugel, the longtime papal valet who worked for three popes, has died in Rome at the age of 90, reports Vatican media.
Appointed in 1978 by John Paul I, the “33-day pope,” Gugel went on to serve John Paul II throughout his nearly 27-year pontificate. He retired at the beginning of the papacy of Benedict XVI, at the age of 70.
Known for his immaculate appearance, he preserved strict discretion even after retirement.
From the Gendarmerie to the Papal Household
Born on 27 April 1935 in Miane, in Italy’s Veneto region, Gugel joined the Vatican Gendarmerie at the age of 20.
After a serious bout of tuberculosis, he was transferred to the administration of the Vatican City State. Albino Luciani, his former bishop in Vittorio Veneto and a family acquaintance, personally chose him as valet after being elected pope.
When John Paul I died unexpectedly on 28 September 1978, Gugel was among the few people present in the papal bedroom.

Tucho Demotes Doctrine While Baggio Decentralizes the Church

Rome dates its propaganda with charming precision. January 8, 2026. Two curial pieces, two polished smiles, one message: the postconciliar project lives; it merely changes its wardrobe. Leo XIV “asks us to reread” Evangelii gaudium and the machine obediently hums. Fernández offers the theological perfume, Baggio provides the managerial blueprint. Together they perform the same trick the system has performed for sixty years: reduce the Catholic faith to a warm nucleus, demote everything that makes it Catholic to “secondary,” then call the demolition “reform,” “listening,” and “mission.”
They claim to be rescuing the heart of the Gospel. They are, in fact, burying it under a therapeutic slogan, a sociological program, and a bureaucracy trained to treat dogma as clutter.
Fernández begins with an order: reread Evangelii gaudium, as though a document’s relevance is created by papal fiat rather than by fidelity to what Christ handed down. He insists it “did not expire,” and then reveals …

Pedaling Away From “Illicit Religion”: China Turns Bicycle Races Into Propaganda Arenas

In Yiwu, Zhejiang, participants in a sports event are indoctrinated against the “xie jiao” while cycling up the hills.
by Qi Junzao
The Yivu race: anti-xie-jiao propaganda is not far away.

On December 14, the city of Yiwu in Zhejiang
province hosted what might have been a perfectly ordinary sporting event: a cycling hill‑climb invitational. One thousand riders gathered at the scenic Shili Taohua Wu area to test their stamina on the winding Yan’kou Lake track. But in China, no public gathering is too innocent to escape the heavy hand of propaganda.
Suddenly, the event was transformed into a “sports + anti-xie‑jiao extravaganza.”
For readers unfamiliar with the term, “xie jiao” is often translated as “cults” or “evil cults,” but this is not accurate. It designates in China since the Middle Ages “organizations spreading heterodox teachings,” and the powers that be decide which teachings are “heterodox.” Today, it is a deliberately broad and elastic label wielded by the Chinese …

"Sorry We Didn’t Discuss the Liturgy" — A Complaint Cardinal Czerny Never Heard at the Consistory

Cardinal Michael Czerny, SJ, 79, said that during the consistory on 7-8 January, he did not hear anyone say, "Oh, I’m sorry we didn’t discuss the liturgy".
He told the Substack.com-account The Pillar on 13 January, that what Leo XIV will do with the Mass of the Roman Rite is "beyond my pay grade": "I can’t speculate about how he intends to approach the situation. But I can’t imagine a pope who wouldn’t want to bring peace to the Church. I think every pope since St Peter would want that," the cardinal speculated.
In general, he found the consistory a "healthy" exercise. "As soon as we got together and realised that the first thing we would do was spend the whole afternoon discussing it, we realised we were already at work. People immediately switched into gear. All three sessions were good."
"Not Possible Without Pope Francis"
When asked if the lack of collegiality among the cardinals wasn’t the elephant in the room under Francis, Cardinal Czerny denied it, saying: “No, quite the …More

Gregory DiPippo argues that Vatican II’s liturgy constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium was effectively nullified not by neglect but by its early misapplication. He identifies the 1964 decree Inter Oecumenici—especially its promotion of Mass versus populum—as introducing changes never envisioned by the constitution itself. DiPippo contends that subsequent “conciliar reforms,” exemplified by recent experimental reordering of Mantua Cathedral, falsely claim fidelity to the Council while betraying its intent. He concludes that decades of such reinterpretations make it impossible to recover what the Council actually taught, and calls on Church leaders to acknowledge this failure.

What Killed Sacrosanctum Concilium

There have been many laws, decrees, constitutions and such in the Church’s long history which, without ever being formally revoked, simply faded into disuse and obscurity. Very often, it is impossible to say when such laws became dead letters. But in the case of Sacrosanctum Concilium, the Second Vatican Council’s constitution on the liturgy, we know the exact day on which it became a dead letter. That day was September 26, 1964, when the Sacred Congregation for Rites published the decree Inter Oecumenici, billed, falsely, as a step towards its implementation, but in reality, a guarantee that it would not be implemented, but rejected.
I say this because it was the decree that enshrined the celebration of the Mass versus populum. “The main altar should preferably be freestanding, to permit walking around it and celebration facing the people.” (parag. 91) The problem with this was not principally that it was based on an egregious scholarly error, one of many that marred the process …

V.R.S.

Sacrosanctum Concilium was not "misapplied" as it had been written in a way allowing to apply it in whatever way revolutionaries wanted.
It is quite grotesque to talk about "nullifying" or "killing" the document that was a mere, temporary jumping point for the further progressive leap.
Come on, that document was dead as a dodo the very moment they voted for it.
Too progressive to protect the liturgy and too conservative for the progressist lobby.
Later events only confirmed the above.
As "indultists" often miss reality they are cultivating the myth of good and salutary "Sacrosanctum Concilium" - actually, the document that had brought no good whatsoever in the field of the Catholic liturgy.

“Point VIII ~ Of the hindrances to a Right Discernment of Things, and of the method to be adopted in order to understand them properly
The cause of our not rightly discerning all these things and many others is, that we conceive a love or hatred of them at first sight.
Our understanding is thus darkened, so that it cannot judge of them correctly.
Lest you fall into this delusion, take all possible care to keep your will pure and free from inordinate affection for any thing whatsoever.
When any object, then, is presented to you, view it with your understanding; and consider it maturely before you are moved by hatred to reject it, if it be a thing contrary to your inclinations, or by love to desire it, if it be pleasing to them.
For thus the understanding, being unclouded by passion, will be free and clear, and able to perceive the truth, and to …More

Gut Cure: How to restore your microbiome so your body can do what it was designed to do
Your gut microbiome acts as a command centre for digestion, immunity, metabolism and brain health; when microbial diversity drops, symptoms often go beyond digestion.
Short-chain fatty acids (“SCFAs”), especially butyrate, are essential compounds made by healthy gut bacteria that help repair your gut lining, calm inflammation, stabilise blood sugar and support mental clarity.
Modern diets heavy in seed oils (including linoleic acid), emulsifiers and ultra-processed foods disrupt beneficial bacteria and reduce butyrate production, leaving your gut undernourished even if you eat “healthy” foods.
Simple changes, such as replacing seed oils with stable fats like butter, ghee or coconut oil, can lower inflammation, rebalance your microbiome and help your body begin healing from the inside out.

She was dressed in black, with seven swords piercing Her Immaculate Heart. Coming closer, with an expression of profound sorrow, and with tears on her cheeks, she spoke to me, saying: ‘Listen attentively, and reveal to all:
‘My Heart is sad for so many sufferings in an impending world in ruin. The justice of Our Father is most offended. Men live in their obstinacy of sin. The wrath of God is near. I know why. I know the prophecies and messages. GOD wants the world to love His Mother and recognize her as His Mother and so her Immaculate heart will triumph and both hearts be loved and adored. An I hope they will show her thanks for what she did for us and GOD.
But Russia needs first to destroy all the evil first from this world. GOD choose her to destroy evil and to help his Mother be loved and adored by the conversion of Russia. Two beautiful things I hope to see.
It's the prot's and jews who hate her and hurt her every day. There is no talking to the prot's. I tried for years on yt and finally had to leave because I literally got too upset, sick and had headache's with their filthy mouths. They can be very vicious against The Blessed Mother and Catholics.

FCA upholds 2024 ruling that Liberal government unreasonably invoked Emergencies Act to clear convoy

The appellate court dismissed every appeal before it on Friday
Blair Ector, Sujit Choudhry, Ewa Krajewska
The Federal Court of Appeal has upheld a two-year-old ruling that found the Liberal government unreasonably invoked the Emergencies Act to clear the 2022 Freedom Convoy.
Multiple parties had appealed the
2024 ruling by Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley, which addressed four lawsuits challenging the slew of emergency measures the government rolled out in early 2022.
The government told the appellate court that Mosley, who also ruled that some of its measures to control the protests violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, had reached the wrong conclusion. However, two public interest groups – the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Canadian Constitution Foundation – argued that Mosley’s ruling on the Charter violations should have been even broader.

Bp Strickland : "In every age, the Church is tempted to secure peace by softening what she teaches. And ... God raises up witnesses who refuse that bargain – not loudly, not theatrically, but steadfastly.

(Feast of St. Marcellus I, Pope and Martyr – January 16)
Brothers and Sisters,
There is a kind of suffering that comes from the world, and we expect it. The world has always resisted the light. But there is another kind of suffering – sharper, quieter, and harder to bear – when the wound comes from within, when rejection comes not from strangers, but from one’s own.
Holy Scripture says of Our Lord: “He came unto his own, and his own received him not” (John 1:11).
And on this day, January 16, the traditional calendar places before us a Pope – St. Marcellus I – whose witness is marked by that same sorrowful pattern: not merely opposed by the enemies of the Church, but resisted amid turmoil and rebellion within the household of faith.
So the title today is simple. And heavy. Exiled by his own.
Pause for a moment and let that phrase do its work. Because it is not only history. It is a pattern. It is a temptation. It is a warning. And it is also – mysteriously – a path that God has …More
