Depressive Former Medjugorje Believer Arrested for Vandalizing the Shrine

A 31-year-old Polish man, identified by regional media as Bartłomiej Włodzimierz Krakowiak, has been arrested for vandalizing the Marian shrine of Medjugorje during the night of 27–28 July, just days before Mladifest, which is expected to attract around 50,000 young pilgrims.
"Medjugorje Is a Deception"
The suspect allegedly poured black paint over statues of the Virgin Mary on Apparition Hill and at the Blue Cross, wrote "Devil in a skirt" on one statue. He hung banners accusing the six visionaries of being "frauds - I have proof", spray-painted slogans including "Medjugorje is a deception," "Only Jesus," and "Mary = devil," and set fire to the recently renovated outdoor altar behind St. James Church.
He was arrested hours later in Černo, near Ljubuški, heading toward the Croatian border.
Former Pilgrim
The case is particularly striking because the suspect had previously visited Medjugorje as a pilgrim. Regional media report that in 2017 he walked 1,300 km from Warsaw to the shrine, …Kara

Russia’s victory over Ukraine to benefit all humanity – academic

Moscow is a bulwark against NATO and the EU, which are trying to erode national sovereignty in countries like Greece, Dimitrios Patelis has said Russia’s victory in the Ukraine conflict would serve the interests of “all peace-loving humanity” by checking NATO and EU encroachment on national sovereignty, Greek philosophy professor Dimitrios Patelis has told RT. Patelis, who teaches at the Technical University of Crete, made the remarks in an interview aired on Tuesday, saying that Greece’s NATO and EU commitments have pushed national security “into the background.” He argued that pan-European legislation is now taking precedence over national law and effectively negates sovereignty and independence for member states such as Greece. In this vein, the professor alluded to reports that Athens is under sustained pressure from NATO and EU partners to transfer Patriot air-defense assets to Ukraine, including missiles from batteries operated by the Greek Air Force. Archbishop Gänswein Attacks German Synod - But Backs Its New Chairman

That under Pope Francis "certain difficulties and troubles became evident" is "undeniable." So said Archbishop Georg Gänswein, who turns 70 on Thursday, in an interview published by Katholisch.de on July 27.
Monsignor Gänswein believes Leo XIV recognizes these problems and is addressing them.
In Germany, the chief concern of Monsignor Gänswein remains the "Synodal Way": "The tensions surrounding the Synodal Way and various initiatives that break away from the Catholic faith continue to exist and await a final resolution. For many Catholics in Germany who simply want to live their faith, this is a millstone around their neck."
Contradicting his own criticism, however, Archbishop Gänswein said he has "a good impression" of the new president of the German bishops' conference, Bishop Heiner Wilmer of Münster. He is a leading supporter of and affirmative voter for the German Synodal Way.

“My concern centres on that unwieldy term, the ‘Synodal Path’,” Archbishop Gänswein said. “Fruitless debates about structures and similar issues tie up vital energy in the wrong areas.”

German Archbishop: Homosexual March Is "Joyful and Moving Celebration"

Berlin’s homosex march 'Christopher Street Day' is a “joyful and moving celebration.” That is what pro-homosexual Archbishop Heiner Koch of Berlin told KNA on Sunday. He spoke after an attack on the march on Saturday evening.
One woman was killed, and at least 31 others were injured, some of them seriously.
The attacker, Abdul B., 21, drove a car into the crowd and was later - conveniently for the justice system and politicians - shot dead during a police operation.
The full context of Archbishop Koch's statement is: "How terrible! To brutally destroy such a joyful and moving celebration. We keep all the victims, their families, friends, and everyone whose joy has been taken away by hatred in our prayers. Hatred must not prevail."
Abdul B. was born in Berlin in 2005 and grew up there. His parents are from Lebanon, and he held German citizenship. His family belongs to a large extended clan. He had been known to the security authorities for years and was considered part of the Islamist …Kara

Vatican Opens Synod Evaluation to Other Religions

The Vatican has published new guidelines today, "Recollecting: Accompanying the Preparation of the Local Church's Evaluation Assembly," for the next stage of the Synod on Synodality.
Every diocese is required to hold evaluation assemblies during the first half of 2027 to assess how the Synod's Final Document has been implemented.
Bishops will lead the evaluation, establish or reactivate synodal teams, and approve a six- to eight-page narrative report to be submitted to Rome.
They are also instructed to describe "transformations in decision-making processes, and reforms of structures" as part of their narrative report.
Interreligious synodality
Each diocese will also hold an evaluation assembly using the method of "conversation in the Spirit."
The guidelines state that dioceses should consider inviting "representatives of other Christian Churches and communities or other religions as observers."
Lay access to "leadership roles"
The document repeatedly says synodality is not a temporary …Kara

US Archbishop Defends Mosque as Muslims' "God-Given Right"

Pro-homosexual Archbishop John C. Wester of Santa Fe, New Mexico, defended "our Muslim neighbors' right to worship" in a July 27 statement.
He had heard in recent weeks concerns from some residents regarding the proposal to build a mosque and community center in Albuquerque's North Valley.
"Our Muslim neighbors have the same God-given and constitutionally protected right to worship freely as every other faith community, including our own. Defending that right is not only a civic duty but a core element of Catholic teaching", the Archbishop wrote.
According to Monsignor Wester, supporting the construction of a mosque is entirely consistent with Catholic tradition and moral commitments. He urged Catholics to "choose respect, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence."
In 2025, it emerged that, Archbishop Wester promoted and lived with a priest who had spent ten years in a registered homosexual relationship.

Hugh O’Reilly: King Stephan of Hungary’s Admonitions to His Son Emeric

When Atilla the Hun stormed Italy in the year 452, he was met by the Sovereign Pontiff Pope Leo the Great. The Hungarian chronicles record that the warrior received from Heaven the following message: "Hearken to the command of the Lord God, Jesus Christ. Thy pride shall not allow you to enter into the holy city where the bodies of my Apostles lie. Return. Later, one of your descendents will come to Rome with humility, and there I will cause him to receive a crown that shall last forever."
King Stephen of Hungary fulfilled the promise God made to Atilla
Attila thereupon recrossed the Alps, and had only just time to reach the Danube before he died. But, in the days of St. Stephen the heavenly promise was fulfilled.
Indeed, Stephen inherited from his father Géza the dukedom of Hungary that had only a sprinkling of Catholics among the wild Magyars. He left it as a kingdom recognized by the Pope Sylvester II and a people firmly established in the Holy Faith.
He made two Codes of Law, in which …Kara

Bishop Defends Nude 🌈 Photo Shoot Outside Cathedral

Around 500 nude volunteers gathered outside the Cathedral of Santa Ana in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, on Sunday for a photographic installation by American artist Spencer Tunick as part of the Culture & Business Pride festival.
Participants, painted in the rainbow colors, posed in front of the cathedral on the feast of St. Anne, the city's patron saint.
The project was planned in advance as an official festival event, with backing from local tourism and government bodies. Organizers said the artwork celebrated diversity and homosexuality.
According to El País, the local bishop, Monsignor José Mazuelos, said he did not object to the nude performance in front of his cathedral: "I have no problem. When we go to the beach, we see naked bodies, don't we?" His complaint was instead about access restrictions that temporarily delayed clergy and parishioners attending the 10 a.m. Eucharist.
He also described the event as "marketing for the city," adding he supported it insofar as it promoted …Kara

...According to reports circulating in museum circles, in recent days there was a malfunction of the system in the room dedicated to Henri Matisse, where the original preparatory cartoons for the stained glass windows of the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence are kept. These are particularly delicate works. Matisse made these large cartoons by applying and gluing colored, cut papers onto a base support, a technique that makes the material especially sensitive to temperature changes and, above all, to humidity. Again according to reports, the malfunction caused hot and humid air to enter the room just as Rome was experiencing extreme temperatures outside. Some photos taken by tour guides …Kara

Balancing Art Preservation and Summer Heat in the Vatican Museums

The heatwave that will hit Rome in the coming days also risks putting pressure on the Vatican Museums. While the Ministry of Health is forecasting red-alert days outside, inside the largest museum complex of the Holy See, the heat has already become one of the main sources of discontent among visitors. On social media, comments from tourists in various languages are multiplying, complaining about high temperatures in the galleries, made worse by the huge influx of people who travel the unique exhibition route every day. The discomfort has a clear explanation. For several months now, the Vatican Museums have been carrying out a major modernization of the air conditioning system, aimed at finally covering both the lower and upper galleries, where cooling has so far been absent or only partial. This is a very complex project that has inevitably, on some days, led to the temporary shutdown or limitation of certain systems, leaving entire areas more exposed than others to the summer heat.
