Last Sunday, there was another bomb attack on a church in Syria. This time, however, no one was killed or injured. Security camera footage shows a masked man placing the bomb underneath a car parked directly in front of the Greek Orthodox St. George’s Cathedral in Hama. The bomb exploded later that evening. September 14 (the day after the attack) is traditionally celebrated in the Greek Orthodox Church as the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. There was no church service taking place in the cathedral at the time, which likely saved many lives. However, the church was damaged in the attack, and many windows were shattered by the explosion. Children were playing in the church courtyard nearby, but they too were unharmed. Nevertheless, the shock runs deep. Christians see the attack as a clear signal directed against them. “Conservative” Auxiliary Bishop Josef Graf of Regensburg, Germany, can envision ordaining married men to the priesthood. Monsignor Graf made this remarks during a holiday in San Genesio, South Tyrol, where he also helped with the grape harvest in a local vineyard. He told Bz-bx.net: “I personally believe that the Church could afford viri probati”. He added that married priests would probably not solve the shortage of priests. Oddly enough, I can 'envision' waking up and discovering a Church which nurtures vocations by holding to the Faith rather than deviating from it to suit the needs of prelates who should never have been ordained in the first place.
Mature married men have worked out as well in the parishes founded by Anglicans who converted to Catholicism and, of course, historically in the Eastern Churches, so I don't see what people are worrying about. As long as they don't offer ordination to married men under the age of, say, 45 or 50, I think they'd make an excellent and much needed source of new priests.

Leo XIV’s Prayer Intention Is … for the Care of Water: In September 2026, Leo XIV invites Catholics around the world to pray for the care of water. In his monthly prayer intention, he reminds Christians that access to clean water should be a right. “We beg forgiveness that it has been turned into a commodity, forgetting that it is a universal gift, a right without borders.” He encourages Christians to reject waste and pollution and to use natural resources responsibly. Caring for water, he says, is both an expression of love for creation and an act of solidarity with the poor.
